This slow cooker smoked sausage potato corn chowder has always been a hit with my whole family. The ingredients are easy to find at a single grocery store without having to hit several stores, which makes this recipe even better. One of my favorite things about this soup is there is nothing to cook before putting all of the ingredients into the cooker. You just slice, chop, and measure, and you have soup in the making!
It is smokey because of the sausage, slightly sweet before of the corn and peppers, and creamy because of the added heavy cream – it covers all of those flavor factors that I love.
The soup makes a great addition to your easy weeknight meal lineup, especially during busier times like sports season, busy weeknights, or even a lazy Sunday. All you have to do is toss in all of your ingredients, set the slow cooker, and forget it!
Why you’ll love this Slow Cooker Smoked Sausage Potato Corn Chowder
Delicious – This soup is creamy, spicy, salty, and slightly sweet from the corn.
Easy to Cook – The slow cooker makes this such a simple recipe to prepare for your family.
Simple Ingredients – The ingredients are easy to find in most grocery stores and you are likely to have most on hand
Slow cooker – Lastly, if I know my day will be busy, my crockpot comes out!
Ingredients

Smoked Sausage – I used a smoked sausage that already came sliced in the package but any smoked sausage will do! I think a smoked chicken sausage would go so well in this!
Chopped Veggies – Onions and red bell peppers add such good flavor to this dish.
Corn – You can use frozen bags of corn or even canned sweet corn. I used a frozen bag of fire roasted corn for this recipe but equal amounts of canned corn would be just as delicious.
Potatoes – Yukon gold potatoes are one of my favorite potatoes to cook with. It cooks fast and holds up well in soups and stews.
Chicken broth – I used store bought cartons of bone broth but homemade broth would be tasty, too!
Seasonings – The seasonings that I used were cumin, oregano, onion powder, and garlic powder. And, of course, salt and pepper to taste!
Heavy Cream – Heavy cream adds that extra creaminess to the chowder. It’s so, so good!

Supplies needed to make Slow Cooker Smoked Sausage and Potato Corn Chowder
- I really like using my Ninja Foodi Possible for this recipe
- Cutting board and knife if you aren’t using a vegetable chopper (this isn’t the exact one I use because I purchased mine is 2017 but this one is similar)
- Measuring spoons to measure your seasonings
- Measuring cup to measure your heavy cream
How to make Slow Cooker Smoked Sausage and Potato Corn Chowder

First, chop your onion and your pepper and add them to your slow cooker. I used my favorite vegetable chopper for this one. It makes everything the perfect size!
Second, slice your sausage and cut your potatoes into quarters, and add them to your slow cooker.
Next, pour your corn in along with your 2 cartons of chicken broth.
Finally, add in your garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix all of your ingredients well!
Lastly, just before serving, add your heavy cream and stir in well, being careful to not break your potatoes up.
In addition to adding your heavy cream, don’t forget to salt and pepper the dish to your taste!

Tips
- If you don’t have frozen corn, you can replace the 16 ounce bag of frozen corn with 2 cans of sweet corn.
- Serves well with tortillas or crackers. We like ours with parmesan and cilantro! It would be great with cheddar cheese and hot sauce on top. Make it creamier by adding sour cream!
- Don’t forget to turn the slow cooker off when pouring in your heavy cream at the end (just before serving) to prevent your cream from separating.

- I love eating this without any extra toppings but this would be delicious with corn chips, cilantro, shredded cheddar cheese, and a little sour cream on top.
Notes
- I like serving our Smoked Sausage and Potato Corn Chowder with parmesan and cilantro on top. You could also top with cheddar cheese, sour cream, tortillas, crackers, or hot sauce.
- If you don’t have Yukon Gold potatoes, russet potatoes will work fine in this recipe!
