I’m Dekota ♡ Welcome to my table…
I’m a mama of three, married to my bestie for forever-and-a-day, and the top things I love is Jesus, my family, adding another cookbook to my ever-growing collection, and trying a new recipe or two just to see what happens.
Around here, I make easy, get-it-on-the-table-fast recipes that won’t wreck your grocery budget – because feeding your family should come way before anybody’s judgement – including your own!
How I cook – No Guilt Allowed
I am a measure-with-your-heart kind of cook and I taste as I go. I will take bites from the pan before it ever makes it to the table. I am not above a can of cream-of-something soup, a packet of gravy mix, or even a box of Rice-a-Roni. If a bag of frozen veggies is already chopped for me, I am buying that every single time. That gives me ten minutes back and I will take it.
This is not a from-scratch-only, no-shortcuts kind of kitchen. It is a real one that believes fed is best!
Mistakes Are Just Part of the Recipe
Y’all – I burn things. I stink at baking because I forget it is in the oven. I miss ingredients. I’ve served an “oops, that is a little soupy” casserole more than once and just dubbed it as saucy. Cooking is an adventure – an experiment – not a test that you can fail. Every oopsie in my kitchen has taught me something I still use.
I don’t cook recipes that are made of hard and fast rules. Look at it more as offered guardrails. It is a little guidance to keep you on the road but enough room to make it your own. Don’t have an ingredient? Swap it! Like way more garlic than the recipe calls for? Add it! Make your own homemade cream-of-something-soup? Use that!
