This Texas Toast Sloppy Joe has become one of my favorite weeknight dinners because everything cooks up so fast – bake the Texas toast while your sloppy joe mix is cooking and you have dinner ready in under a half hour!

Once everything is ready, you simply top your toast with sloppy joe and dig in!

The Manwich sauce is really what ties this recipe together because it coats every bit of beef in that classic tangy, sweet sloppy joe flavor. Then, once you pile on your favorite toppings like cheese, pickles, mustard, or ketchup (fun fact: I love mine plain!), you end up with a sandwich that is crispier and heartier than the traditional bun version.

Why you’ll love this Texas Toast Sloppy Joe

So tasty -The seasoned beef and Manwich sauce soak into the crispy Texas toast for a flavor combo you will love.

Simple to Make – The beef cooks in one pan while the toast bakes in the oven so the clean up is very minimal.

Make it your way – You can swap or add toppings like extra cheese or pickles to make it your own – or eat it plain, like me!

Great for Busy Weeknights – Since it comes together in about 20 minutes with pantry staples, it is perfect for those nights when you need a fast dinner.

Ingredients

Ground beef – Seasoned simply with onion powder, salt, and pepper, this forms the hearty base of sloppy joe mixture.

Texas Toast – This forms the crispy, buttery base of every sandwich, so bake it right from frozen according to the box instructions.

Manwich Sauce – The whole 15 ounce can gets stirred into the browned beef and simmered, giving you that classic tangy, slightly sweet, sloppy joe flavor.

Seasonings – Onion powder, salt, and pepper are stirred right into the beef as it cooks, adding a savory depth without any extra chopping.

Supplies needed to make Texas Toast Sloppy Joe

  • A large skillet for browning the beef
  • A baking sheet for the Texas Toast
  • A spatula for breaking up the beef
  • Measuring spoons

How to make Texas Toast Sloppy Joe

First, bake your Texas toast according to the package instructions.

Meanwhile, while the bread is baking, add your ground beef to a large skillet over medium-high heat along with the onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook the beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it is fully browned.

Then, add the entire can of Manwich to the skillet and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes so the flavors have time to come together.

Once your Texas toast is golden and crispy, remove it from the oven and top each slice generously with your sloppy joe mixture.

Finally, add your favorite toppings like pickles, cheese, ketchup, mustard, or whatever your favorite topping is. Then, serve your Texas Toast Sloppy Joes immediately while everything is warm.

Tips

  • Drain any excess grease from the beef before adding in your can of sloppy joe mix so your toast doesn’t get soggy.
  • Keep an eye on the Texas toast so it doesn’t get too burnt.
  • Melt the cheese on top by popping the topped toast under the broiler for a minute – but keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.
  • Double the meat mixture if you are feeding a crowd or want leftovers for lunch the next day.
  • Serve open-faced for easy eating.
  • Put two slices together for a Texas Toast Sloppy Joe sandwich!

FAQs

The key ingredients are Texas toast, Manwich sloppy joe mix, ground beef, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Plus, your favorite toppings like cheese, pickles, mustard, or ketchup.

Some alternatives are offered in our “Tips” section.

Store the beef mixture separately from the toast in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat the beef on the stovetop or in the microwave, then bake fresh Texas toast so it stays crispy.

We served ours with a side salad, but it would also be great with fries, chips, or even mac and cheese.
